Ungkapan pemberian nasihat atau saran (expressions of advice or suggestions) termasuk umum di soal listening TOEFL ITP, olehnya perlu untuk membiasakan diri mengenal bentuk-bentuk ungkapan jenis ini.
Bentuk ungkapan memberikan nasihat atau saran
Berikut beberapa contoh model-model cara memberikan nasihat dan saran yang umum digunakan.

Tentunya, bentuk ungkapannya tidak terbatas seperti list di atas. Umumnya bentuk expresi pemberian nasihat berbentuk pertanyaan. Contoh:
WOMAN: I cannot find my keys.
MAN: Have you checked the pockets of the pants that you wore last night.
Si perempuan kehilangan atau tidak menemukan kuncinya. Si laki-laki tanya apakah si perempuan sudah mengecek kantong celana yang dia gunakan kemarin malam. Walau nampaknya si laki-laki hanya bertanya, namun bisa dipahami bahwa dia memberikan saran ke perempuan untuk mengecek kantong celana yang dia gunakan sebelumnya.
Contoh model lain bersifat tersirat (tidak dinyatakan secara langsung).
WOMAN: I am trying to find an apartment near the university.
MAN: I usually check the university website to find a flat to rent.
Dari percakapan di atas, secara tidak langsung si laki-laki menyarankan ke perempuan mengecek website kampus untuk mencari apartement.

(C) Discuss the problem with the professor.

Jawaban: Di atas, bisa dilihat bahwa perempuan memberikan saran (you should …) si laki-laki mesti berbicara langsung ke Professor James karena biasanya si professor bersedia untuk membantu siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam kelasnya.

Jawaban: Di atas disampaikan bahwa si laki-laki tidak nampaknya tidak bisa menemui Anne besok. Olehnya, si perempuan menyarakan (why not …) si laki-laki untuk menemui Anne hari ini.
